Bernhard Krabina
Bernhard Krabina was born in Vienna, Austria on January 25. Christmas
at 15 brought him his first guitar, a gift from his father, prompting
him to cut his first musical teeth jamming with classmates and consequently
teaching himself to play. He found congenial musical companionship
in his school friend, Martin Mossek, with whom he recorded his first
tracks using makeshift equipment in long songwriting session nights
at home. Soon after, Bernhard found an inspired guitar coach, Heimo
Trixner, with whom he trained for several years.
1992 ushered in the brief life of Bernhard’s first band, “Hackneyed” to
be renamed “Lost Art” just a year later. Bernhard was
to perform frequently with Lost Art all throughout the next five
years. Performances included concerts on the stages of Rockhaus,
Donauinsel (Vienna’s recreational Danube Island hosting Europe’s
largest annual open-air festival), WUK, Aera, Zu-Ga-Be, Andino,
Bisamberg, Eisenstadt, and Bregenz.
When Lost Art broke up, Bernhard set out on a quest for new musical
partners and started the rock group “ZapALot” in
which he played for several years, until it, too, ceased to exist.
He co-created patchwork.fm and has been a leading member and producer ever
since.
Bernhard Krabina, obtained a spattering of piano education
at
Vienna’s
Yamaha School of Music and became involved in drums for a while as a consequence
of the rehearsal studio drum kit’s irresistible lure. Nevertheless, Bernhard’s
heart continues to sing mainly for his guitar strings.
The guitarist has attended seminars at the Berklee Summer
School in Los Angeles with instructors Joe
Stump and Bruce Bartlett,
the Austrian town of Zeillern and the Encore Program at the Musicians
Institute in Hollywood, L.A., where he worked with instructors
such as Art Renshaw, Bill Lafleur, and Guy Marshall. Moreover, Bernhard
is a graduate of the Vienna
Music Institute diploma program, for which he was awarded a scholarship. His instructors there
were Ernst Ritsch, Erich Gramshammer, Peter Rom & Fred
Eisler. During his education he had the opportunity to attend clinics with cats like
Conrad Schrenk, Gerald Gradwohl, Scott Henderson, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Steve
Lukather. |
